How can i sync up my yamaha home theatre with my tv?

I want to make it to where if I turn my tv sound up or down the the home theatre follows so I don't have to match it up and there is echo. Any knowledge? I have my dish network receiver through hdmi into my tv then the tv through optical to the home theatre receiver. Will this work? Thanks

I can only really think of maybe using a universal remote and set it so that the volume button controls both your tv and home theatre.

Why do you have your tv volume on in the first place though? I only use my home theatre system for sound, and mute the tv volume. Makes life a lot easier.
