When you check your strings NEVER pull on them! that's just stupid. Do you WANT the thing to fall out. And don't reinsert it by yourself. Get a healthcare professional to do it.

So, I had Mirena put in October 2008, it is now July 2009. Every since I had Mirena placed, I haven't had a period at all. I was a little worried so I check for my strings often. I started having symptoms of pregnancy a few days ago and I went to check for my strings and I couldn't feel them. Could the rough sex that my husband and I have been having knocked the IUD out? Could I be pregnant?

Lost IUD

Well Hello,

I started having signs of pregnancy and i thought i should go ahead and re check my strings. Nothing was there. I went to the doctor and had multiple ultrasounds and nothing. I have been unprotected from pregnancy for God knows how long. I thought it would be the most reliable way to go. I guess i was wrong.

I had mine inserted May 2007. In July 2009, my boyfriend and I were having sex and he had to stop because he felt that the IUD was sitting awkwardly. I went to the bathroom to see what was going on. Come to find that my IUD was almost out. I never had any pain when the IUD was in, nor did I have any periods at all durring the time it was in as well. I was able to lightly tug it and it came right out. I'm not sure why it had fallen out, but 4 weeks later I started my first period. I am ono day 8 of this period and unsure of whats wrong. My periods before my IUD were very irregular, but always 3-5 days in length, never a day longer and was extremely light. So I dont know if its my body back tracking for 4 years of no periods or ?? But the back pain, breast tenderness, fatigue has flared up on and off. I loved the Mirena while it was in, but this aftermath and it coming out early is extremely disappointing =(

I want it out

I want to pull my mirena and but can't. I can't get a grip on the strings. I can feel them with my middle finger, but not enough to pull. Any advice besides go to the doctor. I don't have the money.

beware of iud coming out of position and falling out

My iud didnt actually fall out but it was on the brink of falling out when i went to the dr. I went to the dr actually bc i couldnt find my strings but i felt like this hard spot at my cervix come to find out it was the iud and it was about to come out. I would not recommend an iud to anyone bc of what happened to me. I have a 6 month old and i very well could have gotten pregnant bc of how my iud was positioned. luckly this didnt happen to me.

Please respond

I had merana put in april of 2008 it's now october 2009, I see a lot of familiar things about my issue, But I dont see any answers. My merana feels as if it's dangling halfway out can someone tell me what there doctor has told them about this issue? thanks

The merana can and will fall out its a certainty! Sex alone will knock it around so to speak, the men will feel a lot of painfull poking (The strings), this is normal it lasts 2-3 months if he feels like he's bumping something during intercourse after that, it's the merana. This bumping will contribute to the merana falling out by dislodging it over time or rapidy depending on how sexually active you are or how big he is, I had a patient come in with her merana halfway out half was safetly secure the other half was just sitting there. she said the strings were there but felt longer, this is a sign of it falling out. Now YES you CAN get pregnant if it is almost out or halfway out or anywhere else but were your obgyn put it even then you can still have a tubicle or obtopic pregnancy. As far as painfull urination it is possible to get a urinary track infection if it's not fully removed or replaced or repositioned. The heavy bleeding and clotting comes from your backed up eggs, the merana in part blocks your eggs from comeing to get fertilized and clotting is a form of that, they build up, when the merana comes out so do they, that's why they say oviarian cystes may occure its just a clump of eggs they'll wash away over the next few periods. Periods may last longer (alot longer than your normal one) because your body is trying to cleanse itself from the overstock so to say. The bleeding may look brownish in color this is normal, clean yourself alittle more than usual 3-4 times a day(to try and avoid the urinary track infection) and have plenty of pads ready. Well I hope all this helped if I left anything out feel free to ask me more questions, Have a healthy day,Thomas M.D

Question

I have been searching all over the internet and can not find a direct answer..... my girlfriend got the IUD 6 months or so ago, and last month she felt the plastic tip and a little more and just pushed it back into her. She has had no pain, the strings feel a little longer then normal, but it seems as though the IUD is back where it should be. Is this ok? Or possible that it is back in the uterus? Thanks

if it starts hurting to much jus get it taken out ive had mine for a year and ive suffered so much...jus go to the er n get it taken out tell them it hurts to much..
ima get mine out tuesday just use the only method that works CONDOMS!!!

I have had my mirena in for a year and a half. Last Tues(nov 24th) it came out and I started what I thought was my period. It lasted for 5 days. I finally go in to see the doctor today and the urine pg test was neg but I really feel as though I am pg. (nov 14th was the last time my husband and I did the deed). I am having an ultrasound in 2 days to make sure the mirena didn't do any damage on the way out. Is there any way pregnancy could be detected from the ultrasound? Since my pelvic exam today I have had really light spotting that is a pinkish color, my husband is worried it's signs of a miscarriage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have had such a hard time finding info like this on mirena.

I was just wondering if it can fall out and if it can just not fall out or just vanish? Well if anyone caan tell me please email me at [email protected]. Thank you.

the agendas

Hi,
Can anybody tell me how long the strings is suppose to be/I Have the marena fo almost two years now and never felt for the strings. And today was the first time. And I have no idea of how long it should be?

ok so I was having sex and my fiancee was tellin me to stop cause he felt somethin pokein him so I went to the bathroom and felt to see if it was comin out and I felt the strings like way way down so I just ignored it and was like ok maybe it will go back up tomorrow. Ok so the next day I was walkin and it hurt bad so I checked again and I only felt the strings. So TODAY! It hurt again so I went and checked really good and I felt like this tube thingy in my vagina, and its not suppose to be there and it was sideways and I could feel the entire T thingy and so I pulled on it a lil and then it came out. Im never again havin that thing in me ever. It just didnt work out for me and it did not hurt when I pulled it.

I asked my doctor how long the strings were and she said it depends how short they cut it. So its the length the doctor it. I felt mine alot alot at first and it hurt so she cut it shorter and then I didnt feel it. I got it like 6 months ago and it fell out today so good look with it.

second IUD in less than 4 years!!

well today i was at work when all at once i had this very paiful pain in my bely. I was thinking damn my period must be coming so i took some midol..... it helped the pain a little so i finished my day at work...... when i got home i decited to check it and make sure it was still in place and it wasnt.... i felt the piece right above the string.... i gently pulled on it and like 1 second it came out.... i bleed a little but not so sore anymore.... so i guess the answer is yes they can come out or start to slip!!! Be careful girls.. NO MORE IUD'S FOE ME!!! Im going to go a different route!!!

I have had experience swollen tender breast about two weeks ago like i was pregnant but I have had my mirena since july of 08' so I thought that was weird, then a week a go i started cramping an 3-4 days ago i started havin light bleeding (spotting). Today while in the shower it felt weird down there, kinda hurt, so i checked my strings an they were practicualy hanging out! I was gonna try to push it back in but thought it would hurt to bad so i gently pulled on the string an my IUD fell out! I was horrified. following the IUD coming out i passed a bunch of blood clots. I have no insurance an cant go to my obgyn. I dont know what to do? does it fall out if you get pregnant? HELP!!!

I have had my Mirena for 6 months, and haven't had any problems. I hardly ever get my period, and if I do, it's with minimal cramping (before, when I had my period regularly, I suffered from HORRIBLE cramps. My OB/GYN had to give me a prescription for Darvocet because they were that bad). I haven't worn a tampon since I had the Mirena inserted, just as a precaution. I too, have lost weight. I'm a little concerned with everyone's problematic posts, so I'm going in to get checked out, because I can't feel my strings. I haven't had any pain though. Has anyone else experienced this? No strings...no pain?
