Ok this came up in conversation the other day.
My sister has a friend who is gay, and is convinced he isn't allowed to give blood because of it.
I had heard the same thing, but also at some point heard that was a myth.
So the questions are, can gay guys give blood? If not, it's presumably related to their higher prevalence of HIV due to anal sex. However, surely straight couples who get involved in anal sex carry the same risks...are they also stopped from giving blood?
Also, another question is, how come anal sex is more likely to spread HIV than regular sex...surely if a couple has unprotected sex of any description and one has HIV it'll spread...
I know a lot of questions in one...but if you don't ask, you'll never know...
