A mayoral election in Chandigarh, India took a shocking turn on January 30 when an election officer was caught tampering with votes. The returning officer, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician, Anil Masih was seen allegedly defacing ballots before realizing he was being recorded on a security camera. The Supreme Court called his actions "a murder of democracy".
