Divx player won't display subtitles?

I just downloaded a movie, and it has built-in subs. However, when I right-click and click on English under subtitles, nothing shows up. Normally this wouldn't bother me but this is a film with French and German in it, and I absolutely need English subs. I'm sure it's a simple solution, but I'm not that tech-smart. Thanks for reading.

If the movie is ".mkv" format then you'll need a separate "srt" file in the same folder as your movie.This small file will contain the subtitles.
Some movies don't have the subtitles embedded,they come separately.This is only true if your movie is MKV format.
