Directv 24 months Contracts?

We are planning to switch to Directv from TW. Directv requires a 24 mth contract for their service. The first 12 months offer is great however the 2nd 12 mths are almost triple. However the rep assure me that at the end of first 12 months I will be given the opportunity to choose/change to another or less expensive package if the Choice Xtra is too expensive. Does this sound right? Has anyone had issue(s)with Directv & their contracts?

My advice would be to read and understand the contract BEFORE you sign it. It's unfortunate, but there are some people who answer on Y!A who don't necessarily have your best interests at heart, or who give answers when in fact they don't really know what the answer is.
