citroen saxo 2002 car start problem?

My Car Citroen Saxo 1.6 , 2002 sometimes doesnot start on the first go. there is sound of clank, that goes down on several attempts. can any tell me what can the cause be ? i have recently changed the battery of the car, but still it takes time to start. battery is fine and so is the charger. please help me in this case.

Even if the battery were suspect, it wouldn't make a "clank" as you've described. It wouldn't make any sound at all. The best thing to do is to have the car diagnosed by a mechanic

Impossible to make anything but the most vague guess based on that, so my vague guess is the starter motor.
