Chicago witnessed a vibrant St. Patrick's Day celebration after the Chicago River was dyed green. The Windy City kicked off the festivities a day early on Saturday, using a vegetable dye to turn the water bright green. The tradition reportedly dates back to 1962 when the Plumbers Local Union used green dye to identify how sewage was getting into the water.
