can that be "scanned" by a radio scanner or does the signal just travel through the wire and not really broadcast? Don't want to be scanned.
 
No. The FM power line intercoms work on low frequencies and the signal is blocked by power transformers. Radio scanners don't operate in that range.
 
I don't think you scan this intercom - at least not very easily. I don't know about this particular manufacturer and model, but the ones that I've seen operate at very low frequencies (less than 100kHz) that are way below the range of most scanners.

If someone was really determined to listen in, there are receivers available that would allow them to do so, but they'd have to be pretty determined, knowledgeable and well financed.
