Can I use Blackberry apps with a standard data plan?

I plan to buy a Blacberry Curve 3G from O2 UK and I was wondering if I can use BB apps such as BBM, Facebook, Twitter or Whatsapp without the Blackberry data plan. I currently have a regular plan with 500Mb on my Nokia C3 and I'm curious if I can use those Mbs for BB apps as well as soon as I'll change my phone - because as far as I know these apps don't work on regular wi-fi and you must have some kind of data plan with Internet included.

BBM runs on Blackberry internal network so you must have an actual Blackberry plan for it to work, same goes with email push. On a regular data plan the internet would work fine but you'd need an email app for email. Appworld would still work though.
