Depending on the player yes. If it is an LG or Samsung or any other player that has Netflix streaming a direct line will work.

DVD players that offer Ethernet connections can always be hard-wired to the Ethernet output on your router. It will probably be more dependable than wireless if you are in the basement & the router is on the second floor of the house.
