Can Bittorrents be interpreted by a firewall as a DOS attack?

My router is telling me that we've been receiving DOS attacks every few minutes or so due to bit torrents. This seemed a bit strange, so I was wondering whether the router could be simply interpreting the bittorrent traffic as DOS attacks- rather than them actually BEING DOS attacks.

yes, definitely torrents may also be uploaded by hackers and they keep on attacking time to time, whenever i open bittorent my favourite malwarebytes keeps on stopping direct attacks and informs me

I guess it is possible since torrents are connected to multiple computers at once. Maybe try increasing the limit that your firewall displays the warning. Something like 50 or 100 would probably solve the problem.
