Are these new gadgets as good as a computer?

For instance iPads , iPhones, ipods which are worth more as a user of these which do you prefer as to usage and ease of use and being able to download apps.
I have a netbook someone wonderful gave me but a new battery is 99dollars and an iPad at walmart is 99 dollars which would you purchase ?
Please help me decide
