am i entitled for separation pay if my boss sold his business to another?

i've been working for my boss for 8 years. my boss sold his business and i am one of those who were "absorbed" by the new owner of the same business. am i entitled for any separation pay? my previous boss just gave me separation pay from january this year (2013) instead of starting from 2004. is this just and right?
