Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre has at least one thing in common with the Wicked Witch of the West: He hates to get wet.
That can become quite the problem if you’re a professional baseball player, but only if you’re really good. Unfortunately for Beltre, he’s among the best in the game.

You see, strong in-game performances tend to lead to on-field postgame interviews. On-field postgame interviews tend to lead to Gatorade baths. Gatorade baths tend to make Adrian Beltre quite angry.
On Monday, Beltre showed just how far he’s willing to go to avoid getting an ice cold beverage splattered all over his uniform. Things nearly turned violent.
Yes, that is Adrian Beltre picking up a broom and using it*to keep Rougned Odor and his jug of Gatorade at a distance. As you can see from the above video, the move worked. Beltre avoided the sticky substance and managed to stay dry.
Once he felt safe, Beltre helped the grounds crew get an early start on their postgame routine. He took the broom out to the pitcher’s mound and did a little sweeping.
Oh, it’s probably worth mentioning why Beltre was the player on the game. With the Rangers down 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Beltre belted his 10th career grand slam, putting the Rangers up 5-2. The team would go on to win the game by that score.

And given how well the Rangers have played this season, it’s no surprise how close everyone on the team has become. And when we say “everyone on the team,” we’re even talking about guys who just got there.
When it comes to quirky, Beltre is just the tip of the iceberg for the Rangers.
