Dozens of protesters were arrested at Washington University in St Louis, Missouri, on April 27, with video showing a 65-year-old history professor being “body slammed” by police officers.Footage recorded by the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) St Louis shows a crowd chanting, “Don’t panic, sit tight, we will be alright,” as police approach them.A man wearing a yellow jacket, identified by his wife as Steve Tamari, a 65-year-old history professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, can be seen recording the protest before being tackled violently to the ground.In a statement, Tamari said that he was “body slammed and crushed by the weight of several St Louis County police officers”.He said he was then “dragged” across campus. “As a result of police brutality, I am now in the hospital with multiple broken ribs and a broken hand,” the statement, read by the activist group Resist Wash U, said.The university issued a statement saying that a total of 100 people were arrested, including 23 WashU students and at least four employees.
