from others? A friend and I want to backpack into the mountains and camp overnight a night or two next summer and it seems like the only way to do that is to be in national parks in close proximity to other travelers and tourists. Someone with experience and tips on this would be greatly...

AT doesn't seem ideal for day hikes (just looking at the maps). With one vehicle you'd have to do an out and back and it doesn't look like there are a lot of places where it crosses a road, so your options would be pretty limited.
