do i need to use the emergency brake? is it necessary?

Why does a parking brake fault come up when I start my jaguar s type and want turn off the handbrake? I then have to remove the key, wait for the lights to go out and then turn off the handbrake using the foot brake.

the ABS and the brake light are illuminated on the dash, i dont have ABS brakes theyre the standard 2 disc and 2 rotor type. what could cause this the fluid is full and it seems to behave normally.
e brake is not engaged. the abs light does not illuminate if the ebrake iis pulled.
