Download to try AVS Video Converter from AVS Video Tools
    http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/avs-video-tools.htm

It is very simple with this tool

    - download, install and run the program
    - open a file or file you want to burn
    - click “To DVD” button
    - click “Convert Now”
After conversion is finished, it will ask you to insert a blank DVD.

    That's all!

It supports lot's of video formats: *.avi, *.divx, *.xvid, *.ifo, *.vob, *.vro, *.mp4, *.m4v, *.h263, *.h264, *.mpeg, *.mpg, *.m1v, *.m2v, *.dat, *.mpe, *.3gp, *.3g2, *.3gpp, *.3gp2, *.wmv, *.wmv-hd, *.asf, *.mov, *.qt, *.rm, *.rmvb, *.swf, *.dvr-ms, *.dv, *.dif, *.flv, *.mkv, *.ogm.

Also AVS Video Converter has integrated DVD/VCD burning engine.

I don't think Nero is very good for converting avi's, you usually get syncing problems! But you need to put the file in "Make or modify your own DVD".

Edit: I used to use Super DVD, it's a great program but has it's limitations as the poster above mentions, try convertx to dvd, you can even fit more than one film onto one disc with it.
