Trying to play movies with DivX but not working! Why?

I downloaded a couple of movies in the Divx/avi format and I downloaded and installed Divx player. However when I try to play the movies only a few seconds plays and then it is interrupted by a DivX ad the movie will not play at all. What am I doing wrong? I am not really familiar with this software so maybe there is something I am doing wrong? Any input will be appreciated.Thx!

I use DivX or, I should say, have used DivX player before to play that format of movie. Don't use it. It's bloated and apparently supported by ads. Go ahead and check out VLC Media Player.

Best all around player that's out there. It's low on system resources, plays ANY single format you can throw at it (Including DVD's even when you don't have a DVD decoder) and it just works really well.

Yes, make sure that you have all the right codecs installed first...

If they are just AVI files, then rather use this program to watch them...
