what is a good brand laptop that is fairly priced?

i need to get one because i am enlisting soon in the army, i need to get a laptop for notes and stuff, plus im taking some classes so i need the laptop for that too. i need a laptop that play some games (when i get bored) and can take notes that is fairly priced and looks nice.
also please dont but your B.S. comments if your just going to put me down.
 
I always receommend either Dell or Toshiba.

If you want one for playing the latest 3d games then the inexpensive end of the range won't really cut the mustard - but the mid range ones will.

If you are not worried about the very latest 3d games then just about anything will work out OK.

My daughter has a 18 month old Dell laptop at the very bottom of the pricing range (Inspiron 1501) and it plays Sims2 and Harry Potter 3d Games really well.
