Samsung blu-ray vs. Sony blu-ray?

Is a Samsung blu-ray player just as good as they Sony blu-ray player? I am looking to buy one. I've had issues with Samsung dvd players in the past .... why are they so much cheaper than the Sony's?
The PS3 sells for $399. The Sony Blu-ray player sells for $269.
