Forgot password to Samsung Gravity to unlock the keypad... anyway to reset it?

I forgot my PIN code and my phone is completely locked up. i can't get on it. I sent it back to the company and i don't think they did anything about it. I tried the " turn the phone off, type this code in" and it said unsupported character. HELP

i have a samsung genio slide GT and i cant remember what the code is to unlock my phone. it only allows me to use 4-8 characters and "#" isnt one of them, can someone please help me?
