Why do retailers take advantage of holidays for sales?

I have noticed that even the smallest holidays are now being used as an excuse for a sale to "celebrate" saving money. Do you believe that this distorts the TRUE purpose of the holidays, or that it is just fine.

Feel free to explain your opinion.

It's all about the $$$. I think that it is disgusting how early they push each holiday and that every little holiday is marketed so heavily. I saw Easter stuff yesterday right along with the Valentine's junk.

Like you said what does President's day have to do with a sale on furniture??? It just because people have a day off and the retailers want you spending it at their store.
