Try to get it when you can be there a lot with it. Crate training is also a great idea. Puppy pads work, but my dogs use them when I'm not at home; I make sure to take them out when I'm home. Take the dog out several times, that way it will have plenty of chances to go to the bathroom, and it'll have less accidents.
