Ok a 700mb file is going to be standard resolution 420lines, or 524 if it's pal...and poor quality tbh.
hd-dvd rip downloads usually have the size indicated...if it says 720p then its 1200x720, it says 1080p then it is 1920x1080. Your sceen is slightly to small resolution for native 1080p, but as most films don't use the whole pixel height you may be fine. 1080p ripped is usually about 10gb while 720p is usually about 4.

I should point out that none of those are actually hd-dvds just the movie. You can buy an hd-dvd drive for pc now for about £15 in the uk, and the films have been costing me about £3 each...as 1080p is so large i wouldn't bother downloading it - it's easier to buy the film and its rather inexpensive.
I don't bother downloading films though. divx in a 700mb file is poor quality and hd films i'd rather have with the hd sound, which rippers don't bother with.

I just bought a new monitor with 1920 x 1024 resolution. I have a regular cd-dvd rom in my PC(not Blue ray). So my question is that if I download a divx movie which has usually around 700 mb, what will be the actuall resolution of that movie when I watch it on my new full hd monitor. And the second question is that if I download a HD dvd movie from Rapidshare or so, what resolution its gonna be when watching it on my PC and my full hd monitor? And whats the usuall size of HD dvd movies which are offered for download. Thanks.
