GENERAL INFO...
TELUS PCS phones do not use sim cards. TELUS is a CDMA carrier and the system uses the phones Electronic Serial Number in order to identify that particular device. The HSPA network uses a sim-like card but is NOT GSM. Some GSM phones will work (you will have to check with TELUS directly).

BUYING A PHONE FROM ANOTHER CARRIER...
TELUS Mobility will NOT activate any foreign (non-TELUS) ESN. Contrary to popular belief, CDMA phones are not (and can't be) locked. Carriers have a proprietary inventory list of ESN's and will only allow phones from that list to be activated on their respective network. That's why none of the Canadian CDMA carriers will let you use a phone from another provider. In short, you can ONLY use actual TELUS phones on TELUS Mobility's PCS network. The HSPA network is allowing other phones if they are unlocked HSPA or GSM and are compatible to the TELUS HSPA network.

RINGTONES...
TELUS phone software (PCS dumbphones) will NOT allow any customer-loaded tones to actually work as ringtones. You can put them on the phone yourself or from ringtone web sites but they will not work. There are software modifications for most phones to over-ride this but you may make your phone totally unusable if you don't know EXACTLY what you're doing. Warranty will NOT cover this as modifying or hacking the phone voids all warranty.

RETURNS/EXCHANGES...
You can return a defective phone for up to 30 days and they will give you a new one of the same model and colour. Your phone is not defective just because you picked the wrong colour or model.

WARRANTY/REPAIR...
One year from the date of purchase. It will not cover software 'hacks' that went wrong or water damage. Scratches, scrapes, and cracks are also not covered. They can fix some non-warranty items but you will pay full price for the parts and labor plus shipping costs.

LOST/STOLEN/SMASHED...
No matter how new or old your phone is, it will not be replaced by TELUS. If it was lost or stolen then you should contact TELUS immediately (1.866.558.2273) and advise them because if you don't then YOU are responsible for all usage charges that the thief/finder may rack up by using your missing phone. Smashed phones are your responsibility to replace.TELUS offers 'Device Protection' for $7 per month that may replace your lost or stolen phone.

CANCELING YOUR CONTRACT...
Since a contract is a LEGAL document you are committed to fulfill your obligation to TELUS, so you really have to consider all costs and factors that are involved with doing so. There are only 3 ways to get out of this; pay $20 X however many months are left in your agreement plus tax OR transfer your contract to another user ($25 fee applies) OR be dead and your estate will send a copy of your death-certificate to TELUS.

Pay&Talk phones can be canceled at anytime without penalty. However, any remaining balance on the account will be lost. It is best to use all credits before cancellation.

It seems that 'everyday life' is now taking more and more of my time so this is my last post on the TELUS forum. It's been fun.

The info listed in the sticky is current as of today.
