can a dish network satellite dish be used for directv receiver?

I guess my problem is whether a Dish Network satellite dish can be used and hooked up to my directv receiver for my directv service. My dad actually asked me this question because he is at my house and I'm not there to see if it work work out, and i didn't know the answer and googling didn't help, so any answers will be helpful.

You can try to use it - I believe the dish is not the issue more the transponder in front of the dish that you use.

So in this case the dish would work - but not ness. the transponders in front of that dish.

To me i know that it doesn't work because Dish Network and Directv gives out different signals.
