...done? The phone is locked to orange. The cheapest I have found is £14.99. Is there any free software that I can download to do it
 
Yes there are many free software are available for you to get your mobile unlocked from orange but unlocking via codes will be the safe way to unlock your mobile..try for codes either from your current provider or can get it from online providers..i got unlock code for my Samsung E840 from Wickedunlock and got it unlocked..you can too make a try to get your mobile unlocked via codes..
