Isn't a proposal and ring a promise to marry? I wouldn't consider that a gift. Why do so many people get engaged during the holidays as their 'gift'?

It's cheesy. I'd have been pissed if my husband proposed at one of the major holidays. Not that I wanted extra presents, but that I wanted the engagement itself to be the idea of the day. Luckily for him, he decided to do it in late February, after Valentines Day, which is the cheesiest day of the year to get engaged.

its considered a promise to marry....not a engagement ring.(in small words.someday.sorry)

what? Asking someone to spend the rest of their life with you is a giant gift. Haven't you heard of the gift of love?
Gifts aren't always material.
