what can i take to stop the pain asap from a horrible sore throat?

Take some Advil PM, that helps with pain,fever, and swelling and helps you fall asleep. Drink lots of room temperature water to keep your throat moist. You could also try an over the counter throat spray like Cepracol,it numbs your throat and has some antibacterial properties also. If you havea fever for more than 3 days, see a Dr as it may be Strep Throat.
