Iphone (2g) still worth it? T-MOBILE?

i'm about to buy an iphone 2g from my friend so i can unlock/use with my tmobile plan.

is it still worth it to get the iphone if ur the type of person tat likes the iphone? and also how will i be able to use the internet? my friends told me about something called the edge but now i dont see it anymore on the tmobile website.

so how will i be able to acess the internet (at a cheap price (5.99))

Of course, there are only minor differences between them, you can read that in Wikipedia. I currently have the 3G and most of the time I turn the 3G option off and browse the web via Wi-Fi, which is faster.
