What happens to a 2001 Kia optima if the timing belt breaks?

I was going down the highway and my car died, I pressed in the clutch through it in neutral and pulled over, the car wouldn't turn over so i got it towed to a mechanic who said it was the timing belt. I was wondering what kind of valves are in a 2001 kia optima because the mechanic said it might have bent the valves but he wont be able to look at it till next week so im trying to figure out the odds of the valves being bent and how much it might cost if they are?

Timing belts are deep into the engine which causes them to inflict lots of damage to parts around them when they break. This will take a $250 bill to repalce it up to a lot more to repair the damgae it caused. Good Luck.
