Two factors - Bandwidth (internet speed) and RAM (PC Speed) The more of both, the better. Plus, if you have a bunch of processes running at the same time (IM's, Music players, etc) - that will slow it down. If your PC isn't maintained properly (defrag, disk clean, etc) - that will slow it down.
