I've noticed that in Bavaria, upon first meeting (such as in a store, restaurant, etc.) the common greeting is, "Gruess Gott" instead of "Guten Morgen", "Guten Abend", etc. Is saying "Gruess Gott" in northern cities such as Berlin or Hamburg considered "corny and provincial" and somewhat country-bumpkin-ish?
