My phone is locked..Samsung 737..Help!!?

I passworded my phone a couple of weeks ago, yesterday the battery died and the phone turned off. When I turned it on, it was asking me for my password and it says is incorrect. I called AT&T and they gave me the PUK # but it's not giving the option to put it in. I tried so many times but it only says incorrect password, how can I unlock the phone to re-set the password? AT&T didn't know what to do but to send the phone back. I NEED MY PHONE!!!! pLeAsE HeLp!!I
