Replacing alternator Mazda MPV 2000? Remove axel?

I was told more than once that the right axel must be removed in order to replace the alternator. Is this true? I am fairly proficient with cars, but I don't have a lift nor the tools to remove the axel. Can I get it done from the top?

no not from the top there is not enough room at all.

You also have to remove the front exhaust pipe, the axle and axle shaft bracket and then remove the alternator from the bottom of the car. Its going to be very difficult and time consuming.

I'm a girl and I did it with the Haynes manual... without removing anything underneath. The manual cost . Why do men have to make things more complicated

wow.... complicate things?? I know that last comment is old but it would have been nice if you would have shared how you did it.... in the middle of the same mess.
