I have recently just purchased new mb, processor, graphics card and memory to upgrade my PC. Installed clean Vista x64 Ultimate after installing all these and all appeared fine. Once I installed graphics drivers for new card, things started going wrong and the card soon died. This was then replaced with the same model card (Saphire HD 3870 512 GB RAM) and instaleld into new system. The motherboard in question is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R which has a PCIe x16 and PCIe x8 slot. WHen the card is plugged into the x8 slot, all works fine, but when plugged into the preferred x16 slot the screen goes blank as soon as it tries to load the Windows logon screen and the system appears to hang. Having said this, if I remove the graphics drivers and reinstall, it will work for after the first reboot with new drivers installed, but then after this it reverts to system hang and blank screen. I think the initial card failure may have damaged the PCI e x16 bus on the motherboard, but not certain?
