Hi, when my basement laptop turns on, it forces all the computers to go through that laptop to get to the internet. Slowing down every computers internet connection.
My home network is set up like this:
I have 4 computers :
2 desktops ( 1 vista) a + b
2 laptops (both xp) c + d
Ethernet cable > modem > d link router > wireless broadcast to b + c + d
> Ethernet cable into a

So the problem is that when d turns on, the home network turns to this

Ethernet cable > modem > d link router > wireless to d > back to a + b + c
(above from network map from vista)

Whether the network map is correct or not, whenever laptop d is on, it “steals” the internet speed.
Normally a (direct Ethernet cable) is lightning fast, but when d is on, loading Google becomes a chore.
I’m looking for a solution that will bring all the computers back up to speed.

Thanks.

i am not going to tell you how to resolve the problem.

Slow internet happens for various reasons. You might have poor hardware connecting your machine to the wall. Maybe your modem-router is not configured correctly.Depends- when is it exactly slow? is it while surfing the internet, or when running progrmas? either way, you can make it go faster. If your internet is slow, you should scan your computer for viruses and spyware using suitable programs(for example- avast anti virus or spybot). If you still experience the same problem I would advise you to delete the computer after backing it up, and then installing a new copy of Windows. if your problem is with programs running slowly- I can advise you to download this software, which can extremely help- CCleaner..Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! Do all these and Perform speed here scanmyspeed.com once it will sounds better ...
