hlp unencrypt files. Possible? TY? XP has a file encryption system that when activated changes the files' name to the color green. Stupidly, I did this. I backed up the files to an external drive. Then someone spilled beer on my laptop and pretty much totaled it. Mostly, I think it is the keyboard so the hard drive and memory should be ok. When I connected the external drive to another computer for recovery, the files would not read and could not be moved.

I think the encrypted files need my recognize my original computer to think it should open.

Is it possible to unencrypt the files? Where do they look for ID? Is it on the hard drive? Could it be an identifyer in memory.

Please advise, thank you,

Brian
