No one answer. It is probably mostly true that people work very long hours with little vacation - unless they have union jobs etc - compared to other industrialized societies which tend to have a better work/life balance. It's certainly true that the US is the second (possibly first now as Ireland has become more cosmopolitan since the last survey I saw) most religious industrialized democracy, and this mostly shows up in repressive attitudes towards sex, alcohol and recreational drugs.
