    Why are new books released in hardcover first...

    ...& then much later, as paperbacks? Is it just to make more money?

    yep. just another plot by publishers to make more money. they know that books like harry potter and the divinci code (very antisipated books) will be bought no matter how much it costs (to a certain extent) they know that they can get away with it.

    it sure is. All they want is to get your money, and the author gets maybe 10% of the income, if they're lucky.
