what time does the free verizon calling end?

I seem to recall free minutes started at 9pm and went until like 5:59am (check their website to be sure)

I used Verizon when I lived in San Diego, but Sprint offered nights that start at 5pm (or 7pm) and I thought that was much more reasonable so I switched. It's the same quality of service.
