My chihuahua just had puppies yesterday and today she is picking them up with her mouth i am worried about them

If she's picking them up by the "scruff" of the neck, top back fleshy area, then it's very normal. If however she's gnawing on the leg then there could be a problem and you should check with a vet.

She isn't comfortable where you have her and the pups. Make her a quiet place where she can be alone with the pups. She might kill them if you keep her where she isn't feeling good about the situation.

No she is not trying to bite them. She is trying to move them to a place where she feels comfortable. She needs to be in a place that is quiet, away from the everyday comings and goings of your household. In a dark place, they are naturally den animals, so try to make her a box in a place where everyone doesn't walk past. If you have kids, keep them away! When my female has her pups, I put her in a room in my house that we don't use much, but is close to me, if I hear that help is needed in there. I make sure it's dark and quiet. No running and yelling kids! It sounds like her first litter too, so she is excited. Just try to calm her, keep it dark and quiet and I bet she will be just fine in a day or so.
Good luck.

That's how she moves them around and keeps track of them. Leave her alone, she knows what she's doing.

It's just the way she carries them around, since they can't walk, being new babies. All dogs and cats do it, even the big ones. :)

NO! just like a mama picks up her baby, dogs pick up their young with their mouths because they have no hands! its natural! you have nothing to worry about! your chihuahua knows more about her young ones than you ever will!
GOOD LUCK!

shes just picking them up every mum does that to the pup

they don't have hands so they have to move the puppies with thier mouth.

How else do you expect her to move them? She lacks hands so her mouth is all she's got. Just about all 4 legged animals move their young with their mouths it is a natural thing. Now if she picks them up and starts shaking them like she'd do to her favorite toy then be alarmed. Don't worry I'm sure she will be a great mom. Good luck with the puppies though. Their cute but definitely a challenge. : )

It is always dangerous when bltches try to carry their pups around. Make sure she is in a quiet place out of the mainstream of the house and people are leaving her alone... except for you.. You need to be there to watch over. Put her in a room by herself. She could kill them or eat them... you read that happening a LOT here on Y answers..
Make sure she is fed well and make sure she is not suffering from eclampsia (sudde drop of blood calcium) it is deadly and can only be fixed at the vets office with blood test and injections. Aggression towards pups is a symptom and an emergency.

All these answers stating that its normal?? LOL I have NEVER had a bitch try to pick up a puppy. EVER. If she is trying to move them then she needs a place to feel more secure IMO.

you should be worried. She is nervous, probably you have people in to see them. Give her a very quiet warm place to relax and settle down. I would suggest that you be very firm with her and tell her NO, drop it
every time she picks one up. She can kill them

if you need to ask this question you have no business owning an intact dog much less allowing it to breed!

She's moving them and caring for them. She will be fine. She doesn;t have hands so she has to move them some how. This is normal.

It's natural. She is just trying to move and adjust their positions. Animals carry their young in their mouth so there is no need to worry unless she is actually attempting to hurt them- you'll know if she does but it's unlikely.

DOGS MOVE THERE PUPPIES THIS WAY SO SHE MIGHT FEEL LIKE THERE OUT in the open more then she would like so she may want to move them.
