early 1990s? I just need to know if there were any influential people during the Cold War era that were national heroes or something. During the 1940s to 1991? It doesn't really have to be during the Cold war. Even in those time periods that I've mentioned. I need to know for a discussion.
 
This is a pretty broad time span.

Sen. Joseph McCarthy - conducted the anti-communist senate hearings.

President JFK - gave the Ich bin ein Berliner speech when the Berlin Wall was erected.

President Nixon negotiated to end the Vietnam War.

Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush (responsible for dealing with Soviets and the eventual fall of the Berlin Wall).
