"Death Note vol. 13: How To Read" or "Death Note: Another Note"?

Hello all, a mate of mine is totally obsessed with the Death Note series and he has the first 12, so which should I get him, "Death Note volume 13: How To Read" or "Death Note: Another Note (A Novel)" ? Any pros and cons to either'd be great.
