Actually mate meta tags arent of that all important much anymore for getting a good rank and being spidered but im not saying to rule them out as they may be of some use. Also having a load of people link to your site is very important.

I'm aware of this; but non the less, they should not be ruled out. They play apart in achieving a better ranking in search engine results.
