...didn't have their hand in? the cookie jar during the real estate bubble. Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, Conservatives, Independents, Blacks, Whites, Latinos, Asians, rich, poor (subprime ring a bell?), middle-class, East Coast, West Coast, S.W., ...

... EVERYBODY was getting what they could while they could.

The only areas that didn't exploit the bubble are those whose real estate prices didn't change significantly from '01 to '06 to '08. And even the people living there were probably dipping into the honey to be had elsewhere in the country.

Isn't it the simpler and more gullible among us who attach a party or race or region to this debacle?

Yes indeed, everyone was getting what they could while they could. THAT'S what people do! The answer to how this behavior was enabled is less a political one, and more from another institution in DC. The one that controls money and credit...
