I need an SUV or some kind of bigger car, because I have a messed up knee so smaller cars are out of the question. I currently have a HHR which is pretty comfortable but just garbage, my mom is buying me the car so it has to be something she likes and she hates a lot of car brands. Basically no GM, Honda, Toyota, or pickups and she's iffy about older nissans. I don't care about the mpg as long as its not 10 in the city, reliable, and under 10k. She likes the chrysler 300 but I think the seats would still be too low for me, I looked at the 2002 xterra and 2005 grand cherokee, will these last a few more years without problems and what other cars should I look at?
We looked at chrysler because we've had a really good experience with them in the past, the '92 Imperial is still running strong no problem and multiple other ones have been problem free. I just don't know about the newer ones like 2005+

The brands your mom hates are the top SUV makers, she is an idiot.

I would look at a Ford Expedition, if I were you. The 5.4L is proven and they are good vehicles.

Well for starters, I don't think you should buy an Jeep Grand Cherokee older than 2005 because recently all 1993-2004 Jeep GC's were recalled, along with the 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty, for catching fire starting in a rear in crash. More about it here http://news.yahoo.com/jeep-recall-deal-leaves-owners-older-grand-cherokees-215805633.html

However, the 2005-present Jeep Grand Cherokees are reliable and should last up to 200k miles or more if you take care of them so I recommend one. other choices would be a Nissan Xterra (any year), Nissan Pathfinder (1999-2004 and 2005-2012), Ford Explorer (2002-2010), Dodge Durango (2004-2009 and 2011-present), Toyota 4Runner (2003-2009 and 2010-present), or Jeep Wrangler (2012-present). Good luck.

i've had 3 different GMC Envoys over the last 12 years and been very happy with them
