It is a Samsung 5.1 Channel Smart Blu-ray Home Theater System (HT-E3500). I have everything set up and working but one speaker, the Right Surround speaker. The speaker wires are built into the wall near the location of the the Right Surround speaker and come out by the receiver at another place. I hooked the wires coming out of the wall to the Right Surround speaker (gold to negative and silver to positive) and then hooked the wires coming out by the receiver to a RCA cable and was able to play music from the speaker. Now when I try and hook the wires near the receiver into the receiver via a connector port (gold to negative and silver to positive), the receiver turns off after displaying a PROT warning. I have tried all combinations of gold to positive and silver to negative as well as trying a different speaker in the Right Surround position to no avail. However when I plugged the Right Surround speaker directly into the receiver via a foot of wire, the speaker played just fine.

You have a short in the wiring when the unit goes to protection mode. Those home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything or for up grading. They are limited in power and only those speaker that is provide with the unit. The color does not matter, as long as they are connected to the proper speaker location, it is done to make it simple for customers. Hope this will help you out.
